When you are at the hotel and someone calls your room, introducing themselves as one of the hotel’s staff, and asking you for credit card details in order to pay for the services… do NOT trust it, even if you are being pushed to do it. Just tell them you don’t mind going to the reception and paying for it in person.
In this case, probably, the scammer will stop and back off. Plus, remember that decent hotels ask for payment only at the time of departure when you hand them the room keys.
Rental Housing
Some tourists prefer to rent an apartment instead of staying at a hotel because they are cheaper and can provide you with many things. However, there is still a big chance that the owner will be fooling you after you hand back the keys.
He would claim that he needs more money for the “damaging property”. So to avoid this issue, sign an agreement with the owner before you move in, and mention all the information about all the additional fees.
New friends
In warmer countries, this trick happens way too often when the tourists stay in bungalows. The scammers will pretend to be interested in you, acquainted you, and start to hang out and enjoy time together for a few evenings.
But one day, he/she will know when exactly you will be out of your room, and they will break in to steal all your valuables and money.
So make sure to always book a hotel room or a bungalow that are safe, and don’t reveal too many information about your vacation plans.
Asking to make a call
As you walk down the street of a beautiful, foreign country, a stranger may approach you looking all frightened and confused. He will ask you if it is possible to make a call from your phone because he lost his (or he got robbed) and now he needs help.
