3. The Bo-Kaap, Cape Town, South Africa

South Africa’s history is as sad as it is inspiring, and The Bo-Kaap reflects this dichotomy. Once known as the Malay Quarter, this place used to be a home for the workers who were brought here from Malaysia, Indonesia and other parts of the world. Its construction dates back to the 1960s, and the houses were built to be rented out to the workers, who could only paint them white. Once the workers were allowed to buy the properties, they painted them in bright, joyful colors as an expression of their much-desired sense of freedom and individuality. Also, South Africa can be on your list of cheap places to travel to as well, if you are looking for an economical vacation – flight tickets might be a little expensive, but hotel booking can be quite reasonable.

4. Red Sea, Egypt

The Red Sea is the home of more than 1,200 different species of fish, and 10% can’t be found anywhere else in the world, which makes it one of the richest and diverse underwater ecosystems. This is all because of the 2,000 kilometers of coral reef that extend along the coast – and some of the coral is as old as 7,000 years. Diving here is a unique and vibrant experience that compares to no other.

5. Rainbow Village, Taichung, Taiwan

It started as an attempt to save the many houses in the Nantuin District of Taichung, but it became one of the most colorful and sought-out tourist attractions. The houses were painted in order to keep them from being demolished, but in the years that followed, some incredible artwork was added, creating a unique setting that looks almost like a dream.

6. Vinicunca, Peru

Peru’s Rainbow Mountain is just a short two-hour drive away from Cusco and is one of the country’s most famous attractions. The mountain has formed over the course of millions of years, and the many layers of sedimentation provide a myriad of different and vibrant colors – it will be hard to believe your own eyes and you will wonder how nature can make something so wonderful.
