4. Pyramids Of Yonaguni Jima, Japan: underwater ruins

While looking for a place to observe the sharks back in 1986, Kihachiro Aratake, a director of the Yonaguni-Cho Tourism Association, noticed ruins of pyramids just below the waters of Japan’s Yonaguni Jima. Geologists believe that this fascinating site was an ancient Japanese city lost to an earthquake 2,000 years ago. To date, the underwater ruins of this historic place are still largely unexplored.

5. Port Royal, Jamaica

In the 17th century, this city was known as the “wickedest city on Earth,” all thanks to the notorious pirates that lived there — the real pirates of the Caribbean! The port city, which once stood on the southeast coast of Jamaica, was also famous for alcohol production and extravagance to the point where some of the wealthy people became beggars.  In 1962, however, an earthquake destroyed the city and submerged it in 40 feet of water forever. Many of the city’s artifacts are now in the museums of Jamaica. Those were some of the fascinating ancient sites or historic places from across the world that we were never meant to see but still awaken our thirst for knowledge or mystery and satisfy our curiosity, even if to a small degree! Let us know in the comments which of these historic places you wish you could see or go back in time!
