Christmas is just around the corner, and everyone must be ready to party and enjoy their white Christmas in the most wonderful place you can find. This includes, of course, lots and lots of snow! How else would you celebrate a white Christmas without it?
I know there’s a pandemic, and some people are still afraid of getting on a plane to fly to the white Christmas destination they’ve been dreaming about since last year. But if everyone follows health recommendations, everything should be fine.
This said, before you decide what will be your Christmas destination, you have to ask yourself – and your family – a couple of questions. Do we want just a little bit of snow or lots of it? Do we want to go skiing or just enough to make a snowman? Do we want a city-style or country style? Are we traveling by car or by plane? If by plane, should we get travel insurance or not? As for the latter, I vote for travel insurance because we never know what may happen).
It’s a lot to think about, indeed, but you can only enjoy your Christmas if you plan it in advance! And to help you with all this decision, I’m going to give you the best U.S. places to spend a white Christmas, either with your friends or your family!
Table of Contents
1. Lake Placid, New York
New York is the city that never sleeps and the number 1 Christmas destination for Americans and all people worldwide. But let’s forget the stores and go for the shores—the shores of Lake Placid. Here, during December, you can find an average of 25 inches of snow and a whole lot of fun!
You can get there using the Adirondack Regional Airport in Saranac Lake, N.Y., and then drive only 20 minutes to get to the resort. Or you can take the train directly from New York City via Amtrak that includes a shuttle to the resort.
There you can take on the festivities of the streets, see all the lights, and a one lifetime chance to ride a dogsled run on Mirror Lake in the Olympic Oval. Indeed a spectacular white Christmas destination.
2. Devil’s Thumb Ranch, Colorado.
Don’t get nervous about this name because Devil’s Thumb Ranch is one of the best white Christmas destinations for families! Why? Because nothing screams white Christmas more than a Rocky Mountain covered with blankets of snow as far as your eyes can see!
Just imagine you and your family, after a wonderful day of ice skating or skiing, wrapped in warm blankets, in front of an outside fireplace drinking a hot chocolate (kids) or eggnog (adults).
Are you already buying the tickets for this place? Good.
3. Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, Pennsylvania
If white Christmas for you means lots of snow and lots of lights, Nemacolin Woodlands Resort is the place to be in Pennsylvania! Right after Thanksgiving, this resort has a stunning two million holiday lights spread out and illuminating e-ve-ry-thing!
What else can you find in this amazingly incredible Christmas destination? Live music, festive drink and food, gingerbread house workshops, and visits from elves bringing you gifts and taking your kid’s Santa letters.
This is truly a place worth visiting at least once!
4. Aspen, Colorado
Pack your skis, grab your warmer clothes and get ready to cruise on the most astounding skiing courses because Aspen is calling for you!
Aspen is a rocky mountain town located around 200 miles (320kms) southwest of Denver and is best known for its 12 Days of Aspen. During these 12 days, you can hear Victorian carols on Christmas Hotel Jerome’s lobby, skating parties, and a luxurious lifestyle that will blow your mind.
And if for adults this is one of the best places to ski in Christmas in the USA, kids can visit Santa’s reindeer’s (real live reindeers) and take a ride on them.
You need a better excuse to drink a very good hot chocolate and totally forget about your diet?!
5. Lake Tahoe, California
California is not just amazing beaches spread across the entire coast. It also has an 87% chance of snowing when we go deeper into the mountains region. This only means that you have a 100% chance of finding in Lake Tahoe the white Christmas you’ve been looking for.
The concentration of ski resorts in this area is incredible, and you’ll find 12 of them, each one ready to offer you excitement and fun all day long. After that, you can go admire constellations on a telescopic viewing, watch “Twisted Nutcracker and the Tale of the Rat King” at Olympic Village Lodge, take a Borges sleigh ride, and trot along the path between Merry Wonderland and the Village. Otherwise, you can just go to your Christmas hotel and rest for tomorrow’s breakfast with Santa at the Resort at Squaw Creek.
The choice is yours. All you should know is that this place is one of the best Christmas destinations in the USA for a warm Christmas season, even surrounded by cold snow.
