Hide Your Valuables In A Safe Place
While you are away, you can never know what could possibly happen. Hence, always be ready for the unexpected. For instance, don’t leave your home before you finally keep all your valuables, such as jewelry or other expensive possessions in a safe place.
In fact, there are a large number of smart safes in the market, including those elements that can be secured to a wall or those that require biometric access and send you alerts to your smartphone.
There are also many other effective places in which you can hide your stuff, for instance, air vents, empty bottles, feminine hygiene boxes, and more!
Collect Spare Keys
If you have extra keys hidden under doormats, flower pots, or ledges, then, remember to collect them all and give them to a friend or a family member that you trust much in case your house needs attention while you are away enjoying your vacation.
Unplug
This is the very important thing to do! So, please make sure you unplug the energy vampires in your home, say, Tv’s, DVD players, kitchen appliances, etc. This will not only keep your home safe but will also help you save energy and money on your electricity bills.
Keep Up With Appearances
If you normally have the habit to leave all your blinds and drapes open when you are home and close them when you’re away on a long vacation, then, this might be an invitation card for thieves and burglars.
Hence, you should be smart and close half of them and keep the rest open. This will give them the illusion that you are actually home and they eventually wouldn’t have the courage to break in!
