You might think that booking a deluxe room in a hotel is one of the best ways to pamper yourself and have an unforgettable vacation, but you might be wrong and even disappointed! A ‘’Deluxe’’ room could be nothing but one of those misleading words that the travel industry has invented for its own benefits!
Normally, the word deluxe is defined in Merriam-Webster online dictionary as ‘’ notably luxurious, elegant, and expensive’’. But, unfortunately, this description is far from being true in reality.
In fact, a deluxe room across hotel websites is nothing but a room with the same size as the standard room and looks exactly the same as the latter. The only difference is that the deluxe room can come with one additional feature, such as a coffeemaker or better bedsheets.
So, before you ever decide to pay your money and upgrade to anything deluxe, making sure you know well what you are actually paying for!
The word ‘’suite’’ is as misleading as the previous one on this list! It is a tricky word that is created to make you pay more money for a room that is not much different from the standard room.
A suite for some hotels can be multiple rooms with a separate kitchen and living room, while for others the options can vary dramatically in terms of size and layouts.
Hotels that market themselves as Candlewood suites, for instance, offer basic accommodation with multiple rooms and a fully equipped kitchen, while Suites at Comfort Suites, mean a bit larger room than the standard one with some deluxe touches thrown in and that’s all.
So, again, you might need to make sure what you are actually paying for!
No one can deny that boutique hotels are uniquely designed, trendy, and new to the market and most travelers are excited to experience staying in these hotels while enjoying their trip.
However, not everyone knows what the true definition of this term. The majority of people think that boutique hotels are those hotels with fewer than 100 rooms, but this is not true.
Boutique hotels are in fact supposed to be petite and artsy with a unique style and locally focused design that evokes the historical connection with the place.
Expedia and Travelocity websites can help you greatly in finding the right accommodation for you and booking your hotel, but you might find it hard to decide whether you should go for a 4-star hotel or for a 5 star one!
Well, don’t bother yourself comparing between hotels because you will certainly spend your whole life doing that. What you truly need to understand is that the stars rating differs from one hotel to another.
Expedia website, for instance, takes into account the hotel amenities, customer experience, media reviews, and more! While TripAdvisor only bases its rating on customer reviews.
So, to help you decide and avoid spending hours of your time in comparing between different hotels, you’d rather decide what you need to find in a hotel. This way, you can easily descend which hotel is best for you! Oh, yes just forget about the stars!
Never ask a hotel about a high-speed internet, because they will never tell you that their internet connection is actually notoriously finicky and vastly unreliable, especially if you are traveling to a rural area.
What you can do is check out the ‘’Hotelwifitest.com’’. The latter collects internet speeds of hotels across the globe and can lead you to hotels with a fast wifi connection.
Hotel Fitness Center
Let’s admit it, no one is really expecting much from a hotel fitness center! The majority of hotel’s fitness centers only have some basic equipment like treadmills, weights, and some yoga mats, while others are seriously catastrophic!
However, if you are an active person and you really like to maintain your shape even in holidays, you can still keep an eye out for fitness centers that aren’t necessarily located in the hotel.
Sometimes, your hotel can have a deal with full-service gyms that allow hotel guests to use their facilities.
‘’The hotel is only a walking distance from the city center’’ is a sentence you tend to hear quite a lot when booking your hotel accommodation. In fact, these two words ‘’ Walking distance’’ doesn’t always mean what it supposed to mean.
Normally, a walking distance should be nothing more than 15 minutes. So, probably this is again one of these misleading words that you shouldn’t rely on much. So, next time, you need staying in a hotel which is only a walking distance from city center, make sure you check google maps.
This way, you are less likely to be late for your professional meeting or whatever important thing that makes you look for a hotel in the city center.
Access to public transportation
This is again really misleading, so you might need to map the routes you are willing to take before booking. Some hotels might say that the access to public transportation is really easy but this is not always true ! as it could be possible that the subway station could be far from what you have been told.
Breakfast is an important meal of the day as it will provide you with all the energy needed during the day. So, it is important to take a healthy one! A continental breakfast can be defined differently from one hotel to another and might not always be what you expected!
According to Merriam-webster website, a continental breakfast could be nothing but a light meal. So, this might not- be enough. This way, it wise to ask your hotel what they are offering.
Don’t be fooled by the word quaint as it doesn’t always mean a historical bed and breakfast. Some hotels might fool you and can be a very simple old hotel with scratchy and smelly sheets. So, before you book, take time to shop around!
