5. Use multiple layers of clothing

Instead of packing a winter coat and two or three thick, wool sweaters that are extremely bulky and take a lot of space inside your suitcase, take advantage of layers. Wearing a shirt, a sweater, and a coat allows you to be comfortable in multiple weather scenarios. Sure, you might have to carry around one of your pieces of clothing in your hands every once in a while, but at least it isn’t something heavy and you won’t be too hot nor too cold.  Wearing multiple layers of clothing is definitely the best option when the weather is highly unpredictable and can vary greatly throughout the day. Dress smart!

4. Tights

This is a very useful tip for women. Tights are a very versatile piece of clothing, which makes them the perfect warm travel clothes for a trip in the fall. On warm days, you can wear a pair of tights and a dress or skirt combo, and on cold days you can wear them underneath your pants for an extra layer of warmth. Very clever, right?

3. Versatile jacket

As we have already mentioned, heavy winter coats are not suitable for this traveling scenario. They will keep your body warm and cozy during the coldest periods of the day, but as soon as the temperature rises, you will have to carry a bulky item of clothing in your hand for the rest of the day. Choose a versatile jacket that is both lightweight and warm enough to keep you comfortable when the temperature drops. If you want to step up your game, you can also buy a multitasking jacket; this is the term used to describe those ingenious jackets that convert from a warm coat to a light jacket through Velcro or zipper systems. They are perfect for frequent travelers who like to spend an entire day exploring outdoor attractions.

2. Scarf

A scarf can make all the difference to protect the neck and chest, two parts of the body that are usually quite exposed to cold and wind. And the cool thing is that when the temperature rises, a scarf won’t bother you that much. You can just hang around your neck (without winding it). If you are traveling to a place that gets very cold early in the morning, you should also consider packing a pair of gloves and a wool cap. The gloves are especially important because we all know how uncomfortable it is to have ice-cold hands.
