Everyone’s always trying to fit everything they possibly can into a small cabin bag. After all, who wants to pay more for luggage? The thing is, most people don’t know how to pack a suitcase efficiently, ending up packing little stuff while occupying more space than necessary. It’s all about organization and planning. So let’s check some packing techniques that you can use for your next trip!

1. Pick your ideal bag

Even though organization and a traveling pack list are vital for solving any space issue, you need to make sure you’re choosing the right bag first. Most people opt for the standard size, which is the cabin bag. It’s the one that often comes free with the plane ticket, and it’s the perfect size for a short weekend trip or even a longer trip during summertime. However, if you’re traveling during wintertime or during long periods, you’ll probably be better off with a bigger bag that can easily transport more clothes with thicker fabrics. The size of the bag is, of course, important, but what’s even more important is the building of it. Hardcover luggage may be stronger and more protective of sensitive items like a laptop, but soft side luggage will allow you to fit more stuff than a hard one. They’re more flexible, and some models offer a few extra inches of growth. They may be harder to clean, but in terms of space, they’re the best choice. 360 spinner wheels are also a must. Think about how easy it will get to travel from one terminal to another, or from the airport to the hotel. Bags with extra pockets and dividers can also be handy in terms of organization.

2. Shoes always go first

Some people will only travel with the shoes they already have on, and only throw a couple of flip flops in their bag for the beach, but it’s normal if you want to bring a couple more options. Think about the shoes you want to bring, maybe some sneakers, slippers for the hotel, flip flops and who knows, perhaps some party shoes? You have four options right here. Which ones are going to occupy more space? Probably the party shoes and sneakers, right? The solution: travel with one of these on your feet, and pack the others in your bag. Always try to bring the lightest shoes with you, and remember that they should be the first items to enter the bag. Grab a plastic bag and place them inside it, so they don’t ruin your clothes and store them in the bottom of your bag. You can also get shoe deodorizer bags so you won’t end up with an unpleasant smell in your bag.
